Waxing FAQs

why wax?

Waxing is one of the best ways to remove unwanted hair temporarily. The results generally last about 2-4 weeks which is much longer than shaving and is much more effective because it removes the hairs from the root and not just the skins surface. Over time with consistent waxing the hair will regrow lighter and patchier, sometimes not at all!

What is soft Wax?

Soft wax is also known as strip wax as it is applied to the skin and then removed with the use of a strip. It is made from a combination of resins, oils, and waxes.

What is the difference between Bikini, Extended Bikini, G-String?

'Bikini' is the outside of your bikini area (including the linea ... better known as the treasure trail), anything that may show when you’re at the beach!

'Extended Bikini' covers the outside of your bikini area and about 2 finger widths in on the sides and the top!

'G-String' is pretty much an extended bikini but also includes between the cheeks (anus), this is a great place to start if you’re new to waxing but would like to work your way up to the brazilian

'Brazilian' the one that every one talks about, this includes everything in the back & the front (anus, perenium, and vagina) but only if you wish, some people like to leave a little something behind, its totally up to you!

can I get waxed on my period?

Yes, absolutely! You may be a little more sensitive during this time but all as long as you wear a fresh tampon or clean menstrual cup to your appointment you’re good to go!

What is hard wax?

Hard wax is a type of wax that is applied to the skin and then removed without the use of a strip. It hardens as it cools, and when removed, it also pulls the hair out by the root.

Is hard wax more painful than soft wax?

Hard wax is generally considered less painful than soft wax, especially for sensitive areas.

how long should my hair be?

1/4 inch or the length of a grain of rice, If you usually shave you should have about 14+ days of growth for your waxing appointment. If your hair is longer than 1/4 inches please leave it as is and do NOT trim as most people trim the hairs too short, resulting in hairs being left behind at the end of your waxing service!

What are the possible side affects of waxing and how can they be minimized?

  • Although we can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs.

  • Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and please wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.

  • Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.

  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.

  • Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) until at least 24 hours after waxing.

  • Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs

  • Regular exfoliation about 2-3 x/week is suggested and will  be helpful especially on legs & brazilian areas.

  • Consistent routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and can minimize irritation as the hairs start to come in softer and thinner

  • Unfortunately, no shower or oral sex for 24 hours after a Brazilian.

  • Products are available for purchase that can be applied topically to avoid in-grown hairs and condition the skin for better waxing results. — Ask your Esthetician about products they may suggest for your specific skin concerns, we’re here to help!

can I get waxed while pregnant?

Absolutely, just keep in mind that your sensitivity to waxing is likely to be higher while pregnant! Especially for the Brazilian as there is much more blood flow to the vagina which can mean you are more likely to lift... ‘Hard Wax Brazilian’ or ‘Half & Half’ are your best bet!

is waxing sanitary?

Absolutely at Sweet Beauty there is never any double-dipping of our waxing implements, and therefore, no risk of cross-contamination.

how long will the results last?

Appointments are usually scheduled every 4-6 weeks. If this is your first time getting a wax you can expect the wax to last 2-3 weeks. Most clients new to waxing don’t feel that they need to come back at 4 weeks because their hair isn’t as dense as they’re used to, this is not recommended! Hair grows in cycles and in order see the full benefits you can get from waxing it is recommended to come regularly!

who should not be waxed?

  • Anyone undergoing Laser Hair Removal in that specific area.

  • Anyone currently taking Accutane or who has taken Accutane at any time within the past 6 months. (please get the ‘okay’ from your health professional before waxing again)

  • Anyone who has an active Herpes outbreak

  • Anyone with a sunburn on the area to be treated

  • Anyone who has had a chemical peel over the treatment within the past 7 days

  • Anyone who has used any type of Retinol within the past 48 hours over the treatment area

  • Any area of the skin showing signs of trauma, varricose veins, open or active acne lesions, eczema, psoriasis or any type of dermatitis will not be waxed
